Enrollment & lessons

  • No!

    Registration at Fret & Bow is free!

  • Lessons are typically scheduled for the same time each week.

    If your schedule doesn't permit weekly lessons, talk to us about purchasing lesson bundles that can be used at your convenience.

  • Individual lessons are typically 30 or 60 minutes weekly.

  • Lesson are scheduled individually with each instructor. We have times on weekday afternoons and evenings and weekend mornings and afternoons.

    You can select a lesson time when registering for a free trial lesson.

  • We accept students of all levels including absolute beginners.

    If you don't have an instrument, we have ones for you to borrow for your trial lesson. And our expert teachers will help you pick out the instrument that's right for you.

Teachers, Instruments & Programs

  • We teach violin, viola, cello, guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, ukelele, and more.

    If it uses frets or bows, we teach it!

    We also help students write their own songs & compose music.

  • Instructors are college-trained musicians and professional teachers and performers. Many are also currently teachers in area schools and colleges.

  • Absolutely!

    Many of our students are currently part of Jr. and Sr. High Area All-State Orchestra, Jr. and Sr. High All County Orchestras, and more.

    Our students have successfully audition and been accepted into college and university music programs.

    Additionally, some of our students currently perform in groups such as the Rochester Mandolin Orchestra and the Rochester Guitar Festival Community Orchestra.

Tuition, payments & policies

  • Our billing options are per class, month, or quarter.

    For billing per class, a minimum of 4 classes must be purchased.

  • Lessons can be rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice! 

  • We accept Credit, Debit, ApplePay, Venmo, Cash, or Checks made payable to “Fret & Bow LLC”

Performances, Practice & Extras

  • We have a fall and spring recital to give students the oppotunity to perform!

  • Beginners should aim for 10–20 minutes a day, more as they progress. Our instructors provide individualized practice plans.

  • After meeting with the student to determine their area of interest, teachers may have them purchase lesson books that are best suited for them.

    Sheet music that is in the public domain, is always provided free to the students.

  • We have a fully furnished waiting area and provide free wi-fi, coffee, and other refreshments.

    And parents are always welcome to sit in on their child's lessons.

  • We do not have instrument sales or rentals.

    However, we have relationships with instrument dealers in the Rochester area. If you are looking for an instrument, we can direct to the right spot!

  • We have parking lots and access doors on both sides of the building for your convenience.

  • If a room is not being used for teaching at the time, students are welcome to use it a a practice space or to warm up for their lesson.

  • Just ask us! We can see if a room is available and reserve it for you!
